Can I attend the camp as a beginning practitioner of yoga?
Karuna’s teaching is appropriate for students of all levels.  The classes focus on encouraging each participant to listen to their own body, and everyone is encouraged to practice at their own level of ability.

Where do we sleep at the tipi camp?
There are 3 spacious and cozy tipis which can sleep about 6 people each.  There are also camping sites in the meadow, trees or near the lake for those who wish to bring their own tents.

Where is the Tipi Camp?
It is located near Nelson, in beautiful British Columbia.  Nelson is 3 hours north of Spokane and between Vancouver and Calgary on Hwy. 3.  From Nelson, it is a 1/2 hour drive to Balfour where you board a ferry that takes you to the Eash Shore of Kootenay Lake.  From there you board a water taxi that takes you to the quiet, beautiful shores of the tipi camp.  We’ll send you detailed directions when you register.

How is the food at the tipi camp?
Local, organic and fresh foods are carefully and abundantly prepared with love by the dedicated cooks. There are three delicious meals, snacks, and sumptious desserts daily.  We are happy to accommodate your specific dietary requests; please let us know what you’d like!

What is the schedule? Do you get any time off?
The day begins with a meditation class and a personal practice, followed by breakfast. After breakfast there is a morning yoga class, which is usally active and energizing, while the afternoon clases will be more relaxing and introspective.  There is free time between lunch and the late afternoon yoga class to swim, hike, read, nap, have a massage, explore the beach or forest, canoe, write, or do whatever you wish.  After dinner there are evening circles,or time to gather around the campfire and relax.  There are approximately 6 hours of yoga and meditation daily,as well as plenty of time for exploring and enjoying the peace of this beautiful location.

How many people are accepted?
Enrolment is limited to 20, to safeguard the delicate environment of the Tipi Camp, and to ensure the intimacy of a small group process. Please register as early as possible to be sure of being able to attend at your preferred time.

  • The lamps are different,
But the light is the same.
So many garish lamps in the dying brain's lamp-shop,
    Forget about them.
Concentrate on essence, concentrate on Light
In lucid bliss, calmly smoking off its own holy fire,
The Light streams towards you from all things,
All people, all possible permutation of good, evil, thought, passion.
    The lamps are different,
But the Light is the same.
One matter, one energy, one Light, one Light-mind,
    Endlessly emanating all things
    One turning and burning diamond.
    One, one, one.
    Ground yourself, strip yourself down,
    To blind loving silence.
    Stay there, until you see
You are gazing at the Light
    With its own ageless eyes.
